2014 November Newsletter
******Date Change for Home and School Meeting******
Due to a scheduling conflict, the Home and School Meeting date has been changed to THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20TH AT 7PM. We apologize for any inconvenience.
PowerSchool Parent Portal
PowerSchool is a vital source of information for your child and your family. PowerSchool allows you to track your child’s academic progress, as well as providing essential information regarding school emergencies. You are able to access information by using your individual PowerSchool Parent Portal account, which you were required to create in September. Earlier this week, we conducted a test of our Alert Solution Emergency Notification System. If you did not receive a call, text or email from the school, YOU HAVE NOT CREATED AN ACCOUNT ON POWERSCHOOL. It is mandatory that you complete this requirement to be able to access your child’s academic information and receive important school emergency information. WE CANNOT CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT.
Once your account has been created you may access it through our new school website:www.stphilipprep.com, under the last link on the right, which is the PowerSchool parent link. It is imperative that you make this a priority for your child.
Parent/Teacher Conferences, 11/13 – 11/14
SPP will hold its annual P/T conferences for all grades on November 13th and 14th; both days will have an early dismissal. Report Cards for grades 3 through 8 will be distributed at that time. Pre-Kindergarten through grade 2 will conduct conferences focused upon student development, as grades Kindergarten, 1, and 2 have moved to a standards based report card distributed three times a year. Kindly make every effort to attend the conference and speak with the teacher. Report cards will not be sent home via the student.
Tuesday, December 2nd, SPP will present our annual Christmas Show. Grades Pre-Kindergarten through 3 will perform in the morning, beginning at 9:30. Grades 4 through 8 will perform that evening at 7PM. Refreshments will be sold at both performances. All are invited to join us (sing along) as we ‘kick off’ the Christmas Season!
Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Monday, December 8th is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Our school will attend the 9AM liturgy. All are welcome to join us as we celebrate this holyday of obligation. “Hail Mary, full of grace…”
Thanksgiving Food Drive
Our school has a long history of service through feeding those in need through our Annual Thanksgiving Food Collection. SPP in conjunction with Saint Philip Parish will not be collecting food but rather taking free-will donations that will be donated to Catholic Charities. Kindly send in your donations to the attention of school office. If you, or someone you know, are in need of food for Thanksgiving, or ongoing assistance, please call Catholic Charities. Contact the Office of Catholic Charities at 973-279-7100, and ask for Kristen McEvoy, at extension 38. Saint Philip the Apostle Parish and Preparatory School support Catholic Charities, at Thanksgiving and during the year. Thank you.
We encourage all of our families to peruse our new website. You will find the monthly newsletters, calendars, menus, sports news, and other information. Most especially, please take a look at the bottom right, under “Photo Gallery,” you are welcome to submit school photos. Most importantly, under the parent link, please create a PowerSchool Parent Portal account for your child.
In everything give thanks;
for this is God’s will for you
in Christ Jesus.
